Treaty 6 150th

In 1876, First Nations and the Crown entered into Treaty 6 at Fort Carlton on August 23rd, Chief Kamiscowesit’s (Beardy’s) Campsite on August 28th, and Fort Pitt on September 9th.

Join us August 20 – 23, 2026 at Fort Carlton Provincial Historic Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of this historic agreement. This milestone offers a profound opportunity to reflect on our shared history, honour the Spirit and Intent of Treaty, and reaffirm our commitment to its ongoing implementation for future generations.

In the words of our ancestors

“What we speak of and do now will last as long as the sun shines and the river runs, we are looking forward to our children’s children, for we are old and have but few days to live.”

– Chief Weekaskookwasayin, Treaty 6, 1876

“When I hold your hand and touch your heart, let us be as one.”

– Chief Mistawasis, Treaty 6, 1876
